When the son of boxer Hector “Macho” Camacho was eight years old, Hector Jr. climbed into the ring with his dad one day and proceeded in a mock sparring session with his father. “Machito” showed an interest in boxing, and later followed his father’s path, pursuing a career as a professional boxer. Camacho Jr. had an award winning amateur career, stepping in with the likes of Zab Judah and Ishe Smith. On October 1, 1996 Camacho Jr. turned professional as he stepped in and won a four round decision over Lou Martinez in Florida. Two fights later he would score his first knockout victory, in the second round against Clifton Woods. What followed was a highly successful career which garnered a few minor light welterweight titles, and solidified himself as a boxer in his own right; he didn’t lose a match definitively until 2002. The 30 year old has amassed a 47-3 professional record with 27 knockouts and has had successes in the ring that have proved that he wasn’t just strummed along by being the son of a famous fighter. The father/son duo have held their own in the boxing game, and even fought alongside each other on a fight card in Tucson, Arizona in 2005. The proud Puerto Rican dons a five fight winning streak leading back to 2007, winning all his fights in 2008 and is looking forward to a big 2009.
