Message from 2010 Chair NaFFAA Eastern Region In behalf of NaFFAA Region 1—Eastern Region, I wish to express our heartfelt congratulation to all NaFFAA’s Outstanding Fathers of the Year 2009 on the occasion of the 7th Anniversary of the New York Chapter. I would like to commend all hardworking officers and members, especially Chairman Joe Ramos, for their unselfish commitment and dedication in achieving the lofty goals of NaFFAA. The measure of our success in the future as an ethnic group in this adopted country of ours is determined by the degree of unity and solidarity that we support the objectives of NaFFAA. It is indispensable that we should harness all the needed energy and strength so we can forge the Filipino American agenda to fruition. Certainly this will rebound to our social, economic and political benefits here in mainstream U.S.A., in similar manner as what other ethnic groups are doing. Let us give our full support to the leaders of NaFFAA for our common good. As always, let us propel NaFFAA’s mission by our steadfast unity, empowerment, and unselfish service for our sake.

Roger N. Alama, P.E. Chair—NaFFAA Eastern Region Past Chair, NaFFAA New York Chapter

Message from 2009 Chair NaFFAA New York October 24, 2009 Greetings to all the 2009 NaFFAA-NY Ten Outstanding Fathers of the Year awardees. Six year ago, Sir Roger Alama who was then the NaFFAA-NY State Chair, requested me to take over the chairmanship of NaFFAA-NY because he had to assume the presidency of PIDCI. I was quite hesitant to take the job because I did not think I was capable of handling it. However, the members present assured me that I had their support and so I thought I will try to continue his term. Everything went well and had been re-elected twice. In all my six years I had fun working with the group - every one has been there to ensure the success of whatever endeavor we undertook. To fulfill NaFFAA's primary goal - EMPOWERMENT - we have reached out to Filipino Americans who have not registered to vote in the local and national election; we have also worked hand in hand with the Philippine Consulate General of New York to encourage Filipino Americans to elect dual citizenship to allow them to vote in Philippine elections. We have also played an active role in the passage FILVET and shared the joy of the Filipino American veterans when they finally received what is due them after 60 odd years from the U.S. government. Honoring Ten outstanding Fathers is the highlight of the social event of NaFFAA New York Chapter which we have done for the past five years. To the Ten outstanding Fathers, my congratulations. My term as Chair of NAFFAA-NY ends this year. I will miss the camaraderie of the group and I would like to thank them sincerely for all the support they have given me. It was fun working with all of you. Sincerely, Jose L. Ramos Chair NaFFAA-NY

Message from Cora Reyes, 2009 Ball Chair Ten Outstanding Fathers of the Year

Welcome! It is with great pride that the 2009 NaFFAA Fathers Of The Year have been selected. Some of you have asked why you were considered for the title. Let me tell you this: I do not know some of you but surely, someone in this audience or someone from somewhere knows you - knows your character and knows your accomplishments as a father. Reading your life stories have given me the conclusion that you are heroes - for the strength of your character, your persistence and perseverance through life, what you have made of yourselves this far, surpassing all adversities and sacrifices, and most of all your love of family, distinguishing yourself as an inspiration to your children. It is not only the education you have gained but rather how you have shared that knowledge, the discipline you have inculcated in your children. It is not only the accomplishments you have achieved but rather the family values you have instilled in your children for their own welfare and success. A friend have mentioned to me that the difference between a mother and a father is: That a father knows best, while a mother sacrifices the most. A father by tradition is the head of a family, the breadwinner, invariably the most respected, can do no wrong in the eyes of your wife, a role model revered by the children. A father is the tie that binds the family with significant contributions into the rearing of the children. You have proclaimed your love and have given it unconditionally. You have shared your wisdom and have assimilated fatherhood into the everyday nuances of family life. A man cannot be called a father without having had a child. The life of a child is somehow influenced by parents. Children live by example and to that point, we would like to recognize the characteristics of a great father that we have found in you. We know that you deserve to be called Father Of The year, not only of the year 2009 but for always - not only for what you have made of yourselves but also for what your children have made of themselves because of you. Congratulations and on behalf of NaFFAA New York, I wish you all the best !
