PUBLIC NOTICE POLICE EXAMINATION BOROUGH OF HASBROUCK HEIGHTS The Borough of Hasbrouck Heights will conduct an examination of prospective applicants to its Police Department on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at 7:00pm at the Hasbrouck Heights Boro Hall located at 320 Boulevard, Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey. The examination will be conducted by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police, Inc. and is the first steps required of an applicant. You may obtain copies of the examination notice, the required pre-application forms and instructions from Police Headquarters located at 248 Hamilton Avenue, Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey between the hours of 8:00am and 4:00pm on weekdays beginning on Monday, June 8, 2009 and ending on Friday, June 19, 2009. All pre-application forms must be returned to the said Police Headquarters on weekdays between 8:00am and 4:00pm and no later than Friday, June 26, 2009 at 4:00pm. Any pre-application forms which are not in complete conformity with the instructions will not be considered. The application must be accompanied by a certified check or postal money order payable to The Borough of Hasbrouck Heights in the sum of $100; neither cash, personal checks nor payment in any other manner will be accepted. The Borough of Hasbrouck Heights is an equal opportunity employer. Nonetheless, the Borough will exercise its right in accordance with N.J.S.A. 40A:14-123.1a, to give preference to otherwise duly qualified applicants in the following order: First preference to veterans and residents of the Borough of Hasbrouck Heights: Second preference to non-veteran residents of the Borough of Hasbrouck Heights; Third preference to veterans and residents of other municipalities of Bergen County; Fourth preference to non-veteran residents of other municipalities of Bergen County; Fifth preference to veterans and residents of any other County of the State of New Jersey; Sixth preference to non-residents of the State of New Jersey who had been discharged from service within six months prior to making application; Seventh preference to non-veterans residents of other counties of the State of New Jersey; Eighth preference to all other qualified applicants. Within each of the eight categories above, further preference will be given to those who have obtained higher education credits in proportion to the amount of such credits obtained. For the purpose of determining residency in the Borough of Hasbrouck Heights, the applicant must have resided his domicile in the Borough continuously for at least three years immediately prior to the day on which the test is scheduled; such residency and domicile must continue without interruption until the time of hiring in order to preserve this preference.

All applicants must, by the time of appointment, be as follows: 1.

At least 18 but not more than 35 years of age on the last day for the signing of the preapplication forms or otherwise age qualified to participate in the pension system of the Department.

A citizen of the United States.

3.

(A)The holder of an associates degree from an accredited college or one who has successfully completed an equivalent number of hours (sixty) at an accredited college or, in the alternative. (B) One who has been honorably discharged from the military after at least two years of active duty.

The holder of a current, valid, unimpaired and unlimited New Jersey driver's license.

Applicants to the Police Department will be judged upon the combination of the scores attained (1) on the aforesaid written examination, (2) an oral examination also to be conducted by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police, (3) a physical examination and (4) one or several interviews with the Mayor and Council or an official or Committee designated by it. The weight given to each of the aforesaid shall be as hereafter determined by the Mayor and Council and shall be uniformly applied. Dated: June 1, 2009
