What can the Chamber do for You?

Nelson

STANDING OUT Even before 2008’s political advertising launched we were inundated with two to three thousand messages a day. Turning off the TV won’t make it go away. It’s on the radio, in the newspaper, on your computer, in your mailbox, on signs, clothing…even this newsletter. The bigger the crowd of advertisers, the louder the noise, the harder to hear and the less people care about the messages being sent. The competition is less other companies and more the noise, itself. In sanity’s self-defense, our ears are closing. Monday, July 14th, Sara Nelson, Creative Director for Pasco design/marketing firm Sara Nelson Design, Ltd., will address the chamber’s monthly luncheon meeting on Standing Out—finding ways to be heard amidst visual and aural pollution. Don’t forget to RSVP for the luncheon meeting by phone at 547-9755 or via e-mail: [email protected].

Most people join the chamber to increase revenue via networking. Too many read the newsletter, attend occasional meetings, then wonder why revenue never rises and whether the membership was worth the money.

How should chamber membership be “worked” to see a return on the investment? Here are suggestions from those who have made it work over the years…

yourself to do that, then e-mail. But more personal is better. Put an insert into the chamber newsletter.

Nearly 1,000 of those go out every month and it’s the best value in town for business-to-business advertising: 1,000 8.5” x 11” full-color glossy advertisements (two-sided, if you like) for a couple of hundred bucks plus printing… If that list sounds like work, it is. But a small business owner’s life is mostly work anyway—so invest some of it into making all the other hours more profitable.

COMMUNICATING OUR PRESENCE: THE CHAMBER WEBSITE & NEWSLETTER Darrick Dietrich, President Pasco Chamber of Commerce

I am happy to announce that the Chamber’s new website is online. Our goal has been for the Chamber to communicate with the “big wide world” via a quality web page. And now we do—with the help of chamber member Bright Web Marketing. Having a World Wide Web presence is important. Many prospective homeowners and business owners looking to relocate begin their search online. Often that search begins at a chamber of

commerce web site. That’s why the Pasco Chamber’s board decided to develop a site that serves as a “front door” to Pasco. Now you can look to www.pascochamber.org for current events and local news. I would like to express my gratitude to Craig Sutton and his staff for their excellent development work.

you to use this newsletter to let the community know about important events or milestones related to your business. In doing so you let others know that your business is developing to better serve them. And that is always a good message to send. Have a great and profitable July!

Keeping with the theme of “communicating our presence,” I would like to remind

Q A

What is the real reason people are always late?

There is only one reason for being late to any event you are attending. The one reason for being late is a low priority for the event. That is the primary reason for being tardy and I can prove it. If I were to offer you $100,000 to enter the next event sixty minutes early, would you be late? Not on your life! You would have stayed at the event all night so you would not miss the deadline. I have good news! This is not like the gaming tables in Las Vegas because there is no risk. Every event you attend is filled with a multitude of business opportunities for you.
