Ten years fundraising experience. Owned and operated a small business providing a variety of fundraising services to non-profits and tribal governments for over six years. Worked with both urban and rural clients to raise funds for projects in the following areas: arts, culture, education, health, justice, crime prevention, social service, community economic development, neighborhood revitalization, education, and organizational capacity building. March, 2007 – Present Associate, Knowpreneur Consultants, Vancouver, BC Key Accomplishments: • Developed the white paper Feeding Growth: A Guide to Expanding For-Profit or Non-Profit Business for the company web site. This article has already attracted interest from potential clients. • Brought in one major client which provides substantial income to the organization. • Currently ghostwriting a booklet on time management to be published by a popular seminar speaker. • Developed several investor relations articles for companies in the mining and alternative energy sectors. 2001 – Present Owner, Fundgathering – Anchorage, AK. Key Accomplishments: • Won Federal grants that have provided over $500,000/year for six years to keep an Inupiaq language immersion school operational. • Designed the fundraising strategy for a $3M capital campaign. • Won a grant that was widely considered “unwinnable” to help the poorest neighborhood in Anchorage address issues of crime prevention and neighborhood revitalization. • Taught workshops in program planning and grant writing to Alaska Natives in both urban and rural areas, teaching over 200 students in 10 different communities. • Designed, as part of a team, a program intended to build local capacity and increase long-term self sufficiency in small rural Alaskan communities. • Mentored 3 Alaska Natives in project planning and grant writing skills over a period of several months each, 2 went on to write several successful proposals. 1999 - 2000 Director of Grants Administration, Alaska Village Initiatives - Anchorage, AK. Key Accomplishments: • Raised over $1M in public and private grants to establish a manufacturing plant and associated job training program in a rural Alaskan community • Raised over $1M in public and private funds to design and distribute fire safety equipment appropriate for use in rural Alaska. This program has continued to the present day and has saved several lives.
1997 - 1999 Deputy Development Director - Alaska Native Heritage Center - Anchorage, AK. Key Accomplishments: • Designed Capital Campaign strategy as part of a team, and raised over $10M for the campaign, through over 40 grant proposals to public and private sources. • Raised over $2M for opening year programs at the Center, working closely with program staff. • Set up the Center’s donor database and donor correspondence programs, trained and supervised one staff person assigned to maintain these programs. • Prepared talking points for use in the solicitation of individual and corporate donors. • Prepared summaries of contributions to date and projected future contributions for use by Board and staff. 1993 - 1996 Staff Anthropologist - Tanana Chiefs Conference - Fairbanks, AK. Key Accomplishments: • Completed two reports for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, discussing Athabascan cultural practices as they impact the amount of moose, caribou, bears and sheep needed for cultural purposes in a given year. • Analyzed 3 years worth of data on the quantity of animals harvested in each species, and the locations and seasonality of harvests. Produced charts, graphs, tables and maps to highlight the relevant trends in the data. • Acted as a liaison between rural Athabascan communities and federal and state natural resource managers.
