Steps to receive a rebate:

Sprinkler heads with check valves Up to $50 rebate

Review rules and requirements as shown on this page.

Sprinkler heads with check valves manage water pressure at the head so that they operate as efficiently as possible and also do not allow water to “leak” from the system through heads after each watering cycle. Typical heads allow water to escape after each watering, particularly when one or more of the heads is significantly lower than the others.

Purchase and install the qualifying product as shown on this form or from the approved list at www.csu.org. Return completed application form/worksheet and a copy of legible purchase receipts to: Colorado Springs Utilities Residential Efficiency Rebates P.O. Box 1103, Mail Code 1339 Colorado Springs, CO 80947-1339

Qualifying heads have a check valve in them that only opens when the water is on. When the pressure drops as the system shuts off, the valve closes, preventing water from escaping.

or scan all documents and e-mail to: [email protected].

Savings is dependent on a number of factors including the number of cycles run, but 5 to 10 percent of irrigation use is conservative.

Important note: Purchase receipts must include date of purchase, purchase price, make and model numbers, and any special ratings and requirements needed to verify that they qualify for a rebate.

For a list of qualifying products, visit www.csu.org.

Rebates are offered on a first come, first serve basis and are subject to availability of funds. Certain other conditions apply. Please read all rules for each rebate before purchasing and installing.

Matched precipitation nozzles Up to $50 rebate Even coverage is perhaps the most essential ingredient in overall irrigation efficiency. Rotating matched precipitation nozzles for use on stationary pop-up sprinklers apply water evenly over the surface of the ground within the adjustable arc of the nozzle. Typical stationary pop-up nozzles on the other hand, do not. In addition to offering much more even coverage than typical pop-up nozzles, rotating matched precipitation nozzles also throw larger water droplets so that less water is lost to evaporation and drift. They also put water down more slowly so that water is more easily absorbed reducing runoff and pooling.

See specific rebate offers for additional eligibility requirements.

Wired rain shut-off device Up to $25 rebate Wireless rain shut-off device Up to $50 rebate A rain shut-off device is designed to temporarily “shut off” a sprinkler system when a specified amount of rain is received. They are compatible with most automatic irrigation controllers. Savings is dependent on the frequency and volume of rainfall and watering, but a reasonable range in Colorado Springs is 5 to 10 percent of irrigation use. Rain sensors can be found wherever irrigation supplies are sold.

Anyone with pop-up sprinklers should consider using them, especially if even coverage is a problem. They are particularly effective for those who have heavy clay soils and slopes. Savings is dependent on a number of factors, but research suggests that 10 to 20 percent is possible.

Wired rain sensors are generally less expensive than wireless, but may not be suitable in all applications or desirable if the idea of running a long wire to a suitable location does not appeal to you. If either is the case, a wireless sensor may be best. A wireless sensor must have a clear “line of site” with a receiver which is wired to and mounted next to the controller.

Contact local suppliers or a landscape professional to purchase them. For a list of qualifying products, visit www.csu.org.

Weather-based irrigation controller Up to $200 rebate

The amount of the rebate can not exceed the purchase price of qualifying equipment.

A weather-based irrigation controller is an automatic irrigation controller that uses weather data (temperature, precipitation, humidity, solar radiation) or soil moisture, and inputs such as soil type and

plant type to automatically adjust irrigation schedules according to actual plant need. Studies suggest irrigation savings of about 20 percent or more can be expected.

It is strongly recommended that a weather-based irrigation controller be installed by a qualified professional following a thorough evaluation of both the landscape and sprinkler system.

Actual savings is dependent of previous watering habits and weather, but a reasonable range is 10 to 30 percent. It can also reduce runoff by more than 50 percent. Local suppliers who specialize in the sale of irrigation equipment generally either carry or can order these devices. They are also called “smart” or “ET” controllers.
