Wasn’t I just writing the August Action? What a quick month. And a lot of things that made it go fast. First, great job to the Kids Karnival committee and manpower for the event at the end of July. As always, it was an extremely hot day, and everyone worked hard through that heat to make the project a success. Unfortunately it rained, right as we began to unload the truck at the chapter house. That made us get it done faster. Thanks to Fred and Deb Baber for hosting the August Membership Meeting and Social at their home, Katie Rohrbaugh for planning the event, and everyone who came. I got a little lost on the way, but eventually found my way there. Thanks again! Next was the August State Board Meeting in Harrisburg. Hanover placed #2 for the second quarter. Great job for the work that has gone into projects and other events which keeps our Chapter and community strong. And the busy time for out chapter is just coming up! We had a great Crab and Chicken Feed, nice work to Jen Lupp and the committee who put it together. A fun evening, good food, always a good DJ, fun at the jars. Good job also to Kelly Myers for chairing the Seafood Raffle, which was drawn at the Crab Feed. October and Halloween will be coming up, and our biggest project the Halloween Parade is not far off. Mark your calendars for Thursday, Oct 25, we will certainly be able to use your assistance at this project! Karen Sentz will have more on this, please contact her or myself. On Saturday, September 22 we will be having a second Chicken BBQ, chaired by Kathy Main. If you are able to help that day, or can sell tickets for the event, please contact Kathy. Several other big projects and events are still coming up, as you’ll see later in the Action. Keep the great work everyone, and Don’t Back Down!

The man who makes no mistakes Does not usually make anything……William Connor Magee Through the help of WalMart and the Hanover Area Jaycees 59 children have already gotten shiny new backpacks filled with school supplies to begin the year. If you are interested in donating a backpack for this worthwhile cause, stop by your local Walmart and look for the Apple Tree. After much discussion I am sorry to say we have decided to Pass on this years Pass, Punt and Kick (Football Skills). I have experienced this awesome project in the past, but unfortunately we just don’t have enough interest among our members to be able to carry the load of this project and the many others coming up this Fall. If you happen to be a member sitting back reading this newsletter and you don’t like to be involved in everything but just have one “pet” project like Football Skills that’s ok. Please start now and become involved. Pick your “pet” project and come out and see us even if it’s only once per year. We held our third Adopt a Highway on Sunday August 12. While chanting “Keepin America Beautiful” we hiked down 116 with fervor! We were even able to help return someone’s stolen wallet contents found across from Hanover Brands. A very successful day! There will be one more clean-up this year. Please contact Niki Poist if interested.

Melanie Adams is preparing literature for the schools for our annual JAYS-Jaycees Against Youth Smoking program. The project is set to kick off with the start of the 2007-2008 school year. We are still in need of sub-chairs for this year’s Halloween Parade. Please contact Nick Cracium to volunteer at 637-0923. I need two chairpeople for two very special projects, the Senior Citizen’s Thanksgiving Social and the Children’s Shopping Tour. I can assure you chairing these will not only give you a sense of accomplishment but will make you feel good. Please volunteer!!!

Please call or email me with any questions or suggestions. 633-5198 or [email protected].
