2000 U.S. CENSUS THE COMMUNITY OF MONTGOMERY COUNTY OTHER RELATED BROCHURES:
PROFILE
POPULATION (continued)
In the past 20 years, the size of the Asian community in Montgomery County has more than quadrupled. The County’s Asian population is the second largest in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region, surpassed only by Fairfax County. Almost half of Maryland’s Asian population resides in the County. As a group, the Asian community is well educated and earns high incomes. A majority live in homes they own and in a family setting. The following statistics are from the 2000 U.S. Census of Population and Housing and provide a brief look at our Asian community, which includes Native Hawaiians and people from the Pacific Islands. When conducting the 2000 U.S. Census, the Census Bureau, for the first time, allowed persons to identify themselves in more than one racial category. For purposes of this brochure, the data reflects those that identified themselves as one race either Asian or Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander.
