13-1 Volume of Prisms & Cylinders 13-2 Volume of Pyramids & Cones

• VOLUME: The amount of 3-dimensional space that is taken up by something.

(Height)

• Volume is generally the (AREA OF THE BASE) • (HEIGHT)

(Width) (Length)

Cylinder: SAME THING! Volume of Cylinder: (Area of Base) • (Height)

r

Volume: (πr2)• (h)

Obliques

h STICK WITH THE FORMULA! (Remember: Height is always perpendicular to the Base!)

VOLUME OF CONES AND PYRAMIDS The Volume of a PYRAMID is (1/3) that of a PRISM !

Volume of Pyramid = (area of base)(h)(1/3)

Same thing for Cone: Volume of Cone = (1/3) Volume of Cylinder

= (πr2)(h)(1/3)

• Remember: the HEIGHT is the measurement that is PERPENDICULAR to the base!
