The Scrutinies This weekend, the Church celebrates the first of three scrutinies with the Elect - those who are preparing for Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil. We pray for our Elect: Aliya Baig, Chi Elliott, Jaime Fink, Andrew Hui, Nancy Ngo, Femi Olasupo, Adam Shendelman, Vivian Xue. These prayers are to assist them in their preparation for the Easter Sacraments and make them firm their commitment as they enter the Church. Please keep them, as well as our Candidates for Full Communion, Juan Camarillo and Nicholas Chu, in your prayers. By means of the three scrutinies, first of all, the elect are instructed gradually about the mystery of sin, from which the whole world and every person longs to be delivered and thus saved from its present and future consequences. Second, their spirit is filled with Christ the Redeemer, who is the living water, . . .the light of the world, . . . the resurrection and the life. . . . From the first to the final scrutiny the elect should progress in their perception of sin and their desire for salvation. —Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, no.

Fr. Hecker Quote of the Week: We do not know what God has in store for us, not even what He has already given. How many joys and rich blessings are waiting to enter our hearts but prevented by our disobedience? Everyone is invited to the UCC Lenten Soup Suppers which are held from 6:30-7:30 pm Fridays during Lent. Come join us for a simple meal, a social justice message and wonderful fellowship. Please bring a bowl and a spoon, and some bread to share. We are in need of 3 or 4 cooks each week to make a meatless soup, to serve about 20-30. If you are interested in preparing a soup for one of the Fridays, please contact Michael Burkhart at [email protected].
