The Anglican Parish of Cobden-Runanga

The Herald To know Jesus Christ and to make Him known. Sunday 12th April 2009 Theme for this Sunday: Easter Sunday Readings: Gen 3:1-15, Matt 28:1-20 Theme for 19th April: Parable of the Sower Readings: Luke 14:25-33, Luke 8:1-21

Tim Writes Our thoughts and prayers are with Eily Pike who lost Barrie Pike a very dear nephew and with Amanda and David, Raquel and Mark, Barrie's children. We are all saddened by Barrie's death and wish life could have been easier for him over the last few years. I have been very encouraged by the number of people who have expressed to me how they have been quite touched and moved by the Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services we have held. Being reflective style services how much you get from them depends to a large degree on how much you put in; on the way in which you approach the service and open yourself up to the possibility of God meeting with you in a special way. The comments I have received tell me that we have a congregation of people of mature and deep faith, a congregation through whom God can do much. JERUSALEM & MID. EAST APPEAL Enclosed is an envelope for the Lent Good Friday appeal for the work in this

area through the Anglican Missions Board. This may be placed in the plate during Holy Week, Easter Services. If you put your envelope number on these appeal envelopes it will be recorded against your giving.

AGM REPORTS For all those involved in areas of ministry like the Sharing Shed, warden's, vicar, Sunday School, Bible in Schools etc. Please start putting together your reports for the AGM. MAORI NEW TESTAMENT The Diocese have donated us a copy of a bi-lingual Maori New Testament and it is in our library for anyone who might like to have a look or borrow it. VICAR'S VARIOUS ROLES Sometimes people ask me what exactly does a vicar do. Well today the role is incredibly varied and so I thought I might just share a little on the diverse nature of the role. For example over Easter and the week following I have or will have planned, put together

What's On This Week!

AGM AND SERVICE TIMES!!! As the AGM will take time we will have just one service on this coming Sunday at Cobden at 10am. I would encourage folk from the other services to come in and join together for that service and to stay on for the AGM which will start at 12noon.

and run six church services, taken a funeral and a wedding. Performed a blessing at a new Kiwi creche, taken an AGM, counselled a number of folk, interviewed for the Bishop two couples applying for ordination, applied for a funding grant, attended a Lion's breakfast, a Minister's Assoc meeting, helped with sound at a school production, clinically supervised a minister, done loads of admin, picked up donated goods, done property maintenance, met with a charitable trust and other folk regarding various matters, done a short overnight tramp with my children and more. So there you go, a snapshot of the vicar's job. I have to say though that although it is an incredibly diverse role it is also one I find incredibly rewarding and fulfilling.
