From the Nation to the Individual

Worship With Us Sunday: Worship 9 AM & 6 PM * Bible Classes 10:20 AM Wednesday: Bible Classes 7 PM

CSI: Christ Said It… I Believe It! Valley View Christian Camp: July 5-10, 2009 All young people who have completed 3rd-12th grades are encouraged to attend this great week of Bible camp. Don’t miss our summer camp. We will solve the mysteries of following some of Christ’s most difficult commands.

We are grateful for each who helped with our prayer service Wednesday night. I know it is a service that will not soon be forgotten. As brother Gordon challenged us at the end of the service, let’s make sure it wasn’t just “a big event.” Let’s make sure we are motivated to continue to help our nation seek God’s face. It can be done. Today, we are going to turn our attention from the larger scope of the nation, to the personal level. We

want to think about what Christ does for us.

are fearful of the economy. Others are worried about foreign wars and threats from other nations. Some are scared by laws being passed.

Often, through advertising campaigns, we are encouraged to remember that change begins with the individual. If I want to change the nation, I start by making sure I am right with the Lord.

While all these are a major concern (and things about which we should pray often), the most important thing we need to do is make sure our soul is prepared for eternity with God. Make today your independence day!

THE ART OF HAPPINESS You can’t pursue happiness and catch it. Happiness comes upon you unaware while you are helping others. As the Hindu said, “Help thy brother’s boat across, and lo! Thine own has reached the shore.” Happiness does not depend upon a full pocketbook, but a mind full of thoughts that are rich and heart full of rich emotions. Happiness does not depend upon what happens outside of you but on the inside of you; it is measured by the spirit in which you meet the problems of life. Happiness is a state of mind. Lincoln once said, “We are as happy as we make up our minds to be.” Happiness doesn’t come from doing what we like to do, but from liking what we have to do. Happiness comes from putting our hearts into our work and doing it with joy and enthusiasm. It does not come from doing easy work, but it is the afterglow of satisfaction that comes from the achievement of a difficult task that demands our best. Happiness grows of harmonious relationships with others based on attitude of good will, tolerance, understanding and love. It comes from keeping constructively busy. Happiness is found in little things: a baby’s smile, a letter from a friend, a kind word, the beauty of nature. The master secret of happiness is to meet the challenge of each new day with serene faith that “all things work together for good to them that love God” and to prove our love for God as we give help and encouragement to our fellowman. ----Unknown. VISITATION TEAM #1 WILL MEET AFTER WORSHIP SUNDAY EVENING

I hope everyone had a good Independence Day yesterday. I guess camp has really started with a bang this week. For those who are unable to be involved with camp I hope that you can help by praying for all of us who will be up there. I’m really excited about the topic, “Christ Said It… I Believe It.” I think this will be a great opportunity for everyone to refocus our faith and build it as we grow closer together. With the mission trip only two weeks away, I want to encourage everyone who wants to participate with the trip to Beech Island, SC to sign up on the back table or downstairs on the youth wall. We have two departure times, and look forward to reaching out to the community before the VBS on Saturday and helping with the VBS. This is a wonderful opportunity to spread the good news while encouraging our brothers and sisters in Christ. Of course the most wonderful independence we should celebrate daily is the independence Christ provided from sin. We no longer have to be enslaved to sin. Just as Brother Middleton discussed last week, “We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin” (Romans 6:6-7 ESV). How great a Redeemer we have, who took us when we were desolate, cared for us, and helped us to “walk in the newness of life” (Romans 6:4). Have a blessed week, Chris Congratulations to Andrea Grigsby and her team for winning state championship softball.
