Ramblings: An enthusiasm for ministry I'm sitting on a bench in Needville. It's a pleasant night. The moon is peeking through the clouds and a nice breeze is blowing. As I sit here writing this newsletter article there are a couple hundred people walking around a makeshift track. They are joined together for a common cause: finding a cure for cancer. These people all had other things they could have done tonight, but they understand that what is accomplished here tonight is important. You may ask yourself if these people really think that walking around a park for twelve hours will cure cancer. They know it won't. What they know is that what they are doing is raising money that will fund cancer research that will eventually lead to victory over cancer. One of the amazing things about this group is that they have been doing this for years and they keep doing it. I'm particularly excited about this year's Relay for Life event because our church is so involved in making this event a success. Cancer has devastated so many families in our church over the past years. This year a group of people got together

to rally around a friend who is battling this terrible disease. Terrie's Top Gun team isn't just made up of church people, there are folks from all over who are part of the team. They are out here in force. The best part of this team is that it isn't limited to a small group or just church folks. It includes everyone. This is the way ministry should be. Too often we limit our church activities to just church people or we don't invite people from outside the church. It is easy to see as I sit here on this bench that this team is doing great things because they refuse to be limited by what others think can and should be done. My hope is that the enthusiasm this group has generated for joining together to fight this disease can infect our church. I can't wait to see what we can do when we let our hearts lead and not our minds. IGS, John PS. It's Monday and I just got the report that Terrie's Top Gun team raised more than $13,000 for the fight against cancer and easily took first place in the fundraising this year. Just another example of how God blesses efforts when he places the desire in your heart. Great Job!

Opportunities To Serve

YOU NEED NOT UTTERLY despair even of those who for the present "turn again and rend you." For if all your arguments and persuasives fail, there is yet another remedy left, and one that is frequently found effectual, when no other method avails. This is prayer. Therefore, whatsoever you desire or want, either for others or for your own soul, "Ask, and it shall be given you." ~John Wesley

$13,000 That is what I was able to raise for the American Cancer Society with the help of all of you. Whether you let me borrow a table, answered the phone when I called for advice, bought/sold a raffle and/or bunko ticket, donated to an event, walked the track, was a team member, tied a pink ribbon, baked a pie or cake or cookies, put a price tag on an item, or stayed up all night long or countless other things - YOU helped me earn that amount! I could not be more proud of the family and friends that I have! I know there are more I did not include in this note of thanks. But they are in my prayers just as all of you are. I truly love you all! ~Terrie Bradley

New Financial Peace class to begin in June

Final preview session is May 12

70% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. On average, people only give 3-5% of their income towards tithing. 53% of church members do not give a dime to their church. There are 800 scriptures on personal finances in the Bible. Imagine what the people of God could do for the Kingdom of God if they were debt free. Debt is all around us. And it is in this church, too. Over 35% of Christian marriages end in divorce, and money problems are the number one cause. Financial Peace University has a long history of helping families successfully confront these

problems head on. The program is a biblically based accountability curriculum that will teach you to manage God's money and resources in a godly way. It empowers you to make the right financial decisions to achieve your financial goals, teaching you to eliminate debt, build wealth, and give like never before. On average, families reduce their debt by $5,300 and save $2,700 in just 91 days. The next preview meeting for anyone interested in learning more about Financial Peace University will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, in the parlor of the Education Building. The 13-week class will begin June 7 and meet each Sunday from 4-6 p.m.
