Foundation in Information Technology and Introduction to programming courses have been successfully completed with passing grades.

Course Objectives

This course introduces students to basic understanding on multimedia design technology and some software tools commonly used for the interactive multimedia contents design. The course will provide students with basic skills and various aspects and issues of the area of the multimedia design technology. Students will be introduced to the essentials of Imaging tools (Adobe Photoshop for raster-based image and Adobe Illustrator for vector-based image), Interactive multimedia design tools (Adobe Flash) and trained in actual multimedia contents design and programming. The class will mostly be lectures, practical trainings and projects.

Standards for Course Completion

Students will be expected to acquire the basic skills of the multimedia contents design. In addition to the lecture, students will be expected to do exercises and test to show that they understand. There will be weekly assignments, a mid-term project and a final term project assignments.

The course will be conducted through lectures and practical training will be provided according to the textbook. Reports will be assigned as the course proceeds. Teaching Methods Teaching assistants will be arranged to facilitate individual guidance during the practical training. Please make an attempt to take notes whenever the necessity arises. The course will contain about fourteen lecture topics. The lectures will cover the following topics: 1. Introducing the Course -Understanding the course format -Reviewing the course objectives and prerequisites -Looking at the course outline 2. Introduction to Digital Multimedia and Digital Media Tools -Introduction to digital multimedia: What is digital multimedia? -Introduction to digital media tools: -Macromedia Flash for animation and Interactivity -Photoshop for manipulating bitmapped images

Technologies to make animations on the web -Animated GIFs -Java Applets -Dynamic HTML ( HTML + Others scripts)

-Shockwave and Flash Animations 10. Basic knowledge to create Flash Animation -Flash Essentials and Tools panel 11. Flash Animation -Creating and Editing Symbols 12. Flash Animation -Working with color and images -Tweening 13. Scripting and Interactivity 14. Scripting in Flash 15. Submission of End Term Project Students will have to submit a project requested for evaluation.

Method of Grade Evaluation

The final grade (100%) will be awarded using the following criteria of evaluation: ・Attendance: 20 %. ・Quizzes: 20 % ・Exercises/assignments : 20% ・Mid-term Project: 15 %. ・End of Term Project: 25 %.

Requirements for Students

Students are suggested to bring their own USB flash memory to the classroom.
